Eddsworld is a British animated one-act spider web series of flash animations, comics, and Newgrounds browser games, created by Edd Gould. It originated in the United kingdom of great britain and northern ireland.[3] [four] They are distributed on the official Eddsworld website, Newgrounds, DeviantArt, YouTube, Albino Blacksheep, Tumblr, and the BBC.[5] They were previously distributed on SheezyArt until it shut down.[ citation needed ]

Post-obit Edd Gould'south death on 25 March 2012,[4] Thomas Ridgewell became the series' new showrunner, launching a crowdfunding entrada to keep the bear witness titled Eddsworld: Legacy.[half dozen] [seven] [8] Preceding the release of Eddsworld: Legacy'south final episode, Ridgewell announced he was leaving the show and handing control of the serial to Matt Hargreaves and Gould'south family.[eight] [9]

On i January 2017, the prove's website went back online with new Eddsworld comics written and illustrated by Matt Hargreaves. On 1 August 2020, a new curt was released to boot off a new era of the show called Eddsworld Beyond, with Hargreaves as showrunner.[x] As of August 2021[update], the Eddsworld YouTube channel has more 3 million subscribers.[eleven]

At the time of Gould'southward death, his YouTube channel had the most subscribers in the comedian category for the United Kingdom and was the 4th well-nigh viewed comedian in the United Kingdom. Eddsworld was noticed by the organisers of the 2009 United nations Climate Change Conference who deputed an episode virtually climatic change, used in the opening ceremony of the conference.[12] [13]

Synopsis [edit]

Eddsworld follows the misadventures of a grouping of young adults living together in a house somewhere in the Great britain: Edd, an creative person obsessed with Coca Cola; Tom, a jaded nihilist who lacks eyeballs; Matt, a dim-witted narcissist; and (prior to his divergence) Tord, a vehement Norwegian with an addiction to Hentai. The serial is generally episodic, and has little continuity betwixt episodes (salvage for a few "soft" story archs persisting throughout the series).

Principal characters [edit]

  • Edd (voiced by Edd Gould from 2004 to 2012, and so, following Gould's death, Tim Hautekiet from 2012 to 2016, and George Gould from 2020 to the present) – An adventurous artist who loves to tell puns, and adores Coca Cola and bacon.
  • Tom (voiced by Thomas Ridgewell from 2005 to 2016, Ed Templer from 2021 to the nowadays) – A contemptuous alcoholic who plays the bass guitar. He is frequently dragged along on Edd'southward adventures, despite frequently protesting this.
  • Matt (voiced past Matt Hargreaves) – A self-obsessed, dim-witted narcissist.
  • Tord (voiced by Tord Larsson from 2005 to 2008 and Jamie Spicer-Lewis in 2016) – A fierce, hentai-addicted inventor who is oft seen smoking. Tord moves away in "25ft Nether the Seat", but returns with malicious intent in "The Stop (Office 1 and two)". He is the just ane of the four protagonists who is non English, as Tord is said to exist Norwegian throughout the series.

  • Eduardo (voiced by Chris O'Neill from 2010 to 2011 and Brock Bakery from 2014 to the nowadays) – Edd's adjacent-door neighbour and bitter rival.
  • Jon (voiced by Eddie Bowley from 2010 to 2016) – Eduardo'due south housemate and counterpart of Tom. He is generally portrayed every bit extremely unintelligent, and is killed in the serial finale.
  • Mark (voiced by Ben Rudman) – Eduardo's housemate and analogue of Matt.
  • The Evil Director (voiced by Christopher Bingham) – A villainous film director who attempts to clone Edd and his friends in attempts to bolster sales of his pic.
  • Paul (voiced by Paul ter Voorde from 2008 to 2013) – A armed forces guard who takes on multiple roles throughout the series.
  • Zanta Claws (voiced by Josh Tomar) – A zombified version of Santa Claus hell-bent on destroying Christmas.
  • Ell (voiced by Vicky Gould) – The gender-swapped version of Edd.
  • Tamara (voiced past Chloe Dungate in 2015 and Rachel Kiki from 2020 to the present) – The gender-swapped version of Tom.
  • Matilda (voiced by Alice Ann Stacey in 2015 and Jennifer Bingham from 2020 to the nowadays) – The gender-swapped version of Matt.
